History Alive 2013 – Napoleonics   Leave a comment

Last weekend, I managed to get to my favourite event. History Alive 2013

I am always thankful when I go there to the organisers and re-enactors who put so much effort into organising the event and make it a great adventure, this year I only got to go on the Sunday, next year will try and go both days.

My favourite period is Napoleonic and will start with a few photos of them.

Possibly my favourite photo from the day is Michelle Spano as a French Cavalry.

Skye (the Cat)   Leave a comment

We spend a bit of time at our close friends Ivan and Jules (of Jas Photography ) and I always look forward to seeing their beautiful cat Skye.

Skye is always willing to pose for a photo or too, in her Cat way ( which equates to total indifference).

Then we get the “Stretch” as I would rather be asleep.

Canon 7D and 60mm Macro lens (only because it was lready on the camera)

White Faced Heron – Nudgee Beach   Leave a comment

It has been while since I have blogged for various reasons – and have had some ongoing camera issues – well some of the issues might be me – so went out yesterday morning for a “testing ” session and ended up at Nudgee Beach.

I spotted this Grey Faced Heron in the Mangroves, and he behaved and did not fly away when I interrupted his hunting, insteadt just flew up into a tree for a clean while I loitered around below him.

Looks like I still have some issues with focussing – so more work to be done there.

But happy with these images.

Cheers Dave

Bees in the Garden   Leave a comment

I went up to visit my mum for her Birthday on the weekend ( her actual birthday is today).

I took my camera and 60mm Macro lens, just in case and I was please to see some Bees working hard.

Seagulls – Yes Seagulls – Inskip Point.   Leave a comment

We were up at Inskip Point last weekend, to visit family on Holidays there, as always looking for “Birding” opportunities.

So being at the beach, there was Seagulls in abundance, and while waiting for more interesting victims, they were the obvious targets.

Taken with 7D and 70-200mm Lens

Bees in the park ( Roma Street Parklands)   1 comment

We had a Macro meetup on Saturday morning at Roma Street Parklands, having done a quick Macro explore the day before with my Macro Lens, thought I would try something different and chase Bees in flight with the 70-200.

Had various levels of success, but have ideas for when I attempt it again in the future ( probably wait until spring, as it was quite cool and there was few  Bees out and about).

Possibly my favourite – Take Off – Lifting off from the flower.

But back to basics, and to demonstrate the learning curve.

The best of my worst ones ( I would have deleted 20 worse then this).

You can tell my the noisy background, how much post processing was required to try and sharpen this Image to get it to this level.

Ok this one getting a little better.

Getting more keepers as I refined my technique.

A little more work required, to get the images, I would be totally happy with.

Cheers Dave
