Carnarvon Gorge 4 – the Cycads   Leave a comment

I used to grow palm and cycads – and had quite a collection – but doing a lot of travelling and now living in a unit, that is a thing of the past.

I have not lost my interest in these plants – and love finding and seeing them grow in the wild.

So to see the vast number of Cycads (Macrozamia moorei) growing in this National Park was awesome – and most were in seed – big bright orange/red seeds – deserves a second awesome for that.

Ok usually each Blog post only has three photos – but some of these were too nice not to post.

I took a lot of photos of these plants – cutting it down to five was very hard .

How old must this plant be – 100s of years maybe.

Pretty coloured seeds against the green of the plant – beautiful.

Rows of them – thousands of them in this park.

Macro at the Farm   Leave a comment

I went out to my cousins farm today to help with a few odd jobs.

I took the opportunity to get the macro lens out for a play.

Scaly Breasted Lorikeet   Leave a comment

I dragged out the old Sigma 150-500, as I rarely use it, thinking I should sell it, so to sell it I need some sample photos.

The first attempt came up with this Scaly Breasted Lorikeet feeding on the flowers of a Golden Cane Palm.

These were shot at between 400mm – 500mm, and cropped slightly for better composition.

Okay doing more sample shots over the next few weeks, lets see what this lens is capable of.

Bees in the park ( Roma Street Parklands)   1 comment

We had a Macro meetup on Saturday morning at Roma Street Parklands, having done a quick Macro explore the day before with my Macro Lens, thought I would try something different and chase Bees in flight with the 70-200.

Had various levels of success, but have ideas for when I attempt it again in the future ( probably wait until spring, as it was quite cool and there was few  Bees out and about).

Possibly my favourite – Take Off – Lifting off from the flower.

But back to basics, and to demonstrate the learning curve.

The best of my worst ones ( I would have deleted 20 worse then this).

You can tell my the noisy background, how much post processing was required to try and sharpen this Image to get it to this level.

Ok this one getting a little better.

Getting more keepers as I refined my technique.

A little more work required, to get the images, I would be totally happy with.

Cheers Dave
