Kookaburras – all washed up   2 comments

A couple of months ago (yes, still going through old photos) we visited friends down the Gold Coast for an afternoon Barbecue.

While we were there some Kookaburras came around for their afternoon feed – it was raining so they were looking pretty washed up.

Lake Moogerah – Black Swans   Leave a comment

We detoured to Lake Moogerah on the way home last Monday, was raining, but still stopped to get a couple of quick photos of the Black Swans on the lake.

Will have to come back in finer weather with a longer lens, to get some more “individual” shots of the beautiful birds.

There was a few Pelicans there too.

Taken in the rain, testing the weather sealing on the 7D and 70-200mm lens.

Birds of Roma Street parklands   3 comments

I went to Roma Street Parklands this morning for a bit of Macro fun.

Just to show the versatility of a Macro lens, took some bird photos too.

All taken with 7D and 100mm Macro lens

Suburban Birds   2 comments

Due to the rain, did not get out on the weekend, but was lucky enough to get some bird photos in “Suburbia”

First up a Rainbow Lorikeet, as you can see he interupted his breakfast to smile for the camera, taken in the neighbours tree, overhanging the back fence

Next, we have a yet to be identified (when I do I will update this post to show its correct name) bird, visiting us at a BBQ this afternoon.

All taken with the 7D and 70-200 lens.

Feeling blessed with the wonderful and common wildlife we have in Australia .

450D/50 Photo26 ” River Trees”   2 comments

Another couple from my walk along the Brisbane River the other afternoon.

First is this lovely Shade Tree, with the seat to sit and watch the world  pass by.

You can see a tree on the bank of the river a bit further up.

It had the most interesting trunk/root system

Both taken with the 450D/50mm combo, again showing the diversity of images this set up is capable of.

If all else fails, there is always “Macro”   1 comment

A wet and miserable Saturday, not nice weather to really go anywhere, but there was the occasional gap between showers of rain and taking opportunity of a lull in the rain..

I sneakily attached by girlfriends  100mm L series macro lens to my 7D together with my Yongnuo Flash and ventured out into the wet yard to see what I  could find.

After scaring off a pretty moth, with a little over zealousness, entered into stealth mode in my quest for bugs.

Not really required for this caterpillar, as he was going nowhere quickly.

Although did find it interesting if you antagonised him (e.g. removed a leaf near him to get a better shot), these two red “feelers” would come out.

Not sure what their purpose is, not overly scarey, even when waved about in a menacing fashion.

Ok, stopped teasing the Caterpillar, and on the other side of the garden, found this small Grasshopper (Locust) slowly backing into the darkness of where the leaves come out from the plant, but the flash gave me the required light to capture him.

I did take a few more, and may process them another (rainy) day.

Cheers Dave

450D/50 Photo 24 “Flat Black Harley”   Leave a comment

I ventured out quickly at Lunchtime yesterday in Brisbane, and saw this flat black Harley parked in the rain.

So grabbed a quick shot to add to the 450D/50 collection.

Went for a walk around the Brisbane River in the afternoon, and got some interesting photos to post shortly.

Cheers Dave
