Kangaroo Island – Raptor Domain   Leave a comment

We recently had the opportunity to spend 3 nights staying at Kangaroo Island – off the southern coast of Australia – one of the highlights of the visit was going to the Raptor Domain Bird Show.

They had a variety of Birds of Prey from small Falcons up to the very large Wedge Tail Eagle.

One of my favourites was the White Bellied Sea Eagle – it was taken out of its nest as a baby and raised in a shed – when it was rescued it did not know how to fly properly or eat fish. They have put a lot of work into correcting this – but sadly will never be able to be released into the wild.

Abbey the Barking Owl was also a favourite

The Star of the show was the Wedge Tail Eagle

A more complete collection of the bird photos  can be found on my facebook page here

We had a great time on the island – and I will post more photos in the future .

If you want to see more of the wonderful nature of Kangaroo Island there is nice facebook page here that we found useful when planning our trip there.

Thanks for looking.

White Faced Heron – Nudgee Beach   Leave a comment

It has been while since I have blogged for various reasons – and have had some ongoing camera issues – well some of the issues might be me – so went out yesterday morning for a “testing ” session and ended up at Nudgee Beach.

I spotted this Grey Faced Heron in the Mangroves, and he behaved and did not fly away when I interrupted his hunting, insteadt just flew up into a tree for a clean while I loitered around below him.

Looks like I still have some issues with focussing – so more work to be done there.

But happy with these images.

Cheers Dave

Pelicans – Inskip Point part 2   2 comments

The second post of the Pelicans from Inskip Point, this time from a flock of 11 as they flew over.

Quite an impressive sight to see.

Seagulls – Yes Seagulls – Inskip Point.   Leave a comment

We were up at Inskip Point last weekend, to visit family on Holidays there, as always looking for “Birding” opportunities.

So being at the beach, there was Seagulls in abundance, and while waiting for more interesting victims, they were the obvious targets.

Pelicans   Leave a comment

Inskip Point had an abundance of Bird Life, so may continue posting them for a few days ( and also because I have had to work and not gone out and taken any more photos since (except a quick sunset last night).

So bird of choice for today, I thought should be the Pelican, it is Saturday here, and they seem a very “saturday” sort of bird.

Is there any photo that says weekend better then a photo of  aYacht, Pelicans, sand and water?

.

Okay, there should be more Pelican photos, but not saved on this hard drive, will have to do a second Pelican post then sometine later.

All taken with 7D and 70-200mm Lens

Pelicans on the Pond   Leave a comment

I went back on Friday, to where I photographed (last  Saturday) the duck photos I put up yesterday, and was Please to see two Pelicans on the pond.

They were quite mobile paddling from one side to the other and back again.

Had to include this shot, the photos of birds I take going away from me, exceeds greatly the number I get good front shots of .

Taken with 7D and 70-200mm lens.

Cheers Dave

White Herons   Leave a comment

On the way to a friends house for dinner last Saturday night, we met at a pond down the road first to take some Bird photos.

Below are some different White Heron photos, I like these majestic, almose noble birds.

We were lucky they roosted in a tree close to the bank, using the camera’s flash for this one, as by now it was dusk, and light was failing.

These smaller Herons were roosting in trees in the middle of the lake.

Taken with 7D and 70-200mm Lens.
