Moogerah Dam – “End of the Line”   Leave a comment

Leading into last weekend  – it is lunch time Friday and we are on the road – a 2 hour road trip for a weekend adventure  –  our long anticipated weekend away at “Moogerah Dam”  spending two night staying at a beautiful old house based on the banks of the Dam itself   – a nicely secluded (as in the last house on a dead end road with a lot of farm land between us and the closest neighbour) –   sharing the time with some great friends.

On the evening  of our arrival, we were treated to a stunning sunset across the water.

And the sunrise the next morning was nearly as stunning

The main reason photographers usually go to Moogerah with a camera is for the astro photography – but unfortunately the clouds that gave the spectacular sunrise/sunsets were a start of more to come and we did not get much clear sky

I did  manage a semi “Milky Way” shot quickly between some thicker cloud bands going through – but certainly not we were there for

We did a little bit of “fire spinning” by the Lake side.

And there were LOTS of birds to photograph

A quick photo of the house as we were packing to leave (phone photo) – pity it was a afterthought as with the different light over the weekend could of got some nice photos of it.

In summary a great weekend – we photographed, fished, and did a little bit of boating  – there was a bonfire – we will be back.

A link to their website is here for anybody looking to go there – there is also caravan and tent accommodation available separately but you do not get this fabulous seclusion.

If you want to see even more photos from the weekend – I will have these and more on my facebook photography page soon

Sunset – Sunrise New Year 2012 -2013   1 comment

Each year I try and photograph New Years Eve Sunset, and then New Years Day Sunrise.

First we will start with the New Years Eve Sunset – everything worked for this shot, the light, the colour/the camera settings – and instead of processing the ‘Raw’ image as I normally would this is a Jpeg straight from the camera, besides a border and a Water Mark totally untouched.

OK, woke up at 3.30am – was concerned with the low tide, heavy cloud moving in and high winds from previous day if it was worth going or not – thinking going back to bed a good option – looked outside – little tree movement – winds had dropped – see a few stars – ok, so looking promising, although the bed was also looking very tempting still. So where could I go where the low tide would not overly unfluence the type of photos I could take – only option realy was Manly Boat Harbour – as no rocky headlands within driveable distance in the time I had before sunrise at 4.55am.

I get there, ok not too bad, still alot of heavy cloud on horizon, but little wind.

Took a few predawn shots, but nothing exciting and closer to sunrise we see a bit of colour and then it is gone.

The two following images were taken in that brief period of colour.

Ok, this one required quite a bit of work, and was created through a HDR style merging of two images, with a little colour enhancement.

The second one taken a few minutes later looking back to the left of the previous one, the colour is starting to fade, so again a little enhancement in photoshop to get some of the colour back.

Hope you enjoy them, and a Happy New Year to everyone.

Cheers Dave

Sunset on the Farm – Pine Mountain Queensland.   1 comment

More of  my farm photos from last week, this time a sunset.

Was working on the Farm into the afternoon, saw the clouds building and hope they stay until the sun went down, which luckily they did, so grabbed the camera and took some quick shots.

Taken with 7D and 17-55 lens.

Bribie Island Sunset   1 comment

I was at Bribie about a month ago and captured this sunset.

There was very little cloud, but what was there captured the colour well

All taken with 7D and 17-55mm, handheld, no filters, colour captured in camera through white balance selection, very little post processing.

Cheers Dave
